The Summer School’s Data Protection Notice pursuant to Article 13 and Article 14 GDPR

Welcome to the Summer School’s Program. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our participants. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit our website (our “Site”), and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

  • To document the activities and experiences during the Program for internal reports.
  • To promote the Program on our website, social media pages, and in communications with our supporters and funders.
  • To comply with any legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Personal data will also be used for direct marketing purposes on the legal basis of legitimate interest on behalf of the organisation’s objectives.

5. Description of Legitimate Interest

Personal data for the purpose of acquiring general promotional activities to meet the organisation’s objectives will be processed on the basis of legitimate interest on behalf of the organisation in order to realise the statutory goals of the organisation.

6. Consent for Use of Images

By participating in the Summer Scholars Program, participants give consent to the Program to use photographs or video footage taken during the Program for use on our website, social media pages, and in communications with our supporters and funders. This consent includes the use and disclosure of visual images and personal information as described in this Privacy Policy.

7. Data Retention and Security

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

Our website is hosted by our processor Hetzner, Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. Connection data are processed to provide and to deliver the website. Data are not stored beyond access for the mere purpose of delivery and provision of the website.

Registration Form is provided by Gravity Forms: Rocketgenius, Inc

Server log files: Connection data are processed to monitor the technical function and to increase the reliability of our webhost. The duration of processing is limited to 6 months.

8. Transmission of Personal Data

For the purposes mentioned above, we transmit your personal data to the following recipients:

  • The summerschool is a co-sponsored event by Wings for Life and International Spinal Research Trust, and all data will be shared among those charities. Beyond that, University Hospital Balgrist as host of the event, Zentrum für Neurowissenschaften Zürich (ZNZ), and Fondation internationale pour la recherche en paraplégie (IRP) as co-sponsors will also gain access to some of the data upon request.

9. Your Rights Concerning Personal Data

Pursuant to applicable law, you are – among other things – entitled to the following:

  • to verify if and what kind of personal data about you has been stores and to request copies of said data
  • to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data; this is, in particular, helpful if you don’t want us to contact you in the future
  • to request the rectification, addition, or deletion of your personal data that is incorrect or has been improperly processed; the deletion of your data can only take place when all legal tax-related retention periods have expired; deleting your data will not prevent us from contacting you again in the future
  • to object to the processing of your data for the purpose of direct advertising/fundraising; in the event of processing taking place with your consent it can be revoked at any time
  • to request – for the purposes of data transferability – the information you have provided to us in a structured, common, and machine-readably format or – if technically feasible – request the transfer to another person in charge
