Dr. Xiaofei Li is an Assistant Professor and group leader at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. He specializes in single-cell and spatial omics and applies these technologies to understand spinal cord development, injury responses, and regeneration. His research maps how neural stem and progenitor cells diversify into distinct lineages across space and time, and how these developmental programs change after spinal cord injury. By integrating scRNA-seq/snRNA-seq, chromatin profiling, and spatial transcriptomics with functional experiments in animal models and human iPSC-derived neural stem cell systems, his lab aims to pinpoint regulatory checkpoints that limit repair and to design strategies that enhance stem cell survival, differentiation, and integration. At the Wings for Life summer school, he teaches experimental and analytical principles for single-cell and spatial studies, and how to translate omics insights into testable therapeutic hypotheses for spinal cord repair.
